Their third is an equal knockout
The Norwegian pianist and keyboardist has made two exquisitely crafted and elegant yet impassioned LPs with his In the Country trio. Their third is an equal knockout, All limpid infinity pools of grand piano in the Keith Jarrett/ECM vein, with guitars, synths and (especially) vocals helping steer it clear of convention. Fennesz and even Tortoise fans might want to dip their toes in here.

Unique ensemble sound
Qvenild´s vision never loses sight of a bigger musical picture. [..] Once selected as the best young jazz artists in Norway, In the Country are now heading into their thirties, and give evidence of artistic growth and mature conceptualisation of their unique ensemble sound

Beautifully played, lovingly recorded and often incredibly subtle
Another thoroughly beautiful album from Norwegian alt. jazz trio In The Country, led by Morten Qvenild of Susanna & The Magical Orchestra, The National Bank and The Shining.

Wonderful
If I’m honest, I’ve always been more of a fan of Qvenild’s In The Country. A piano trio featuring Qvenild on piano (mostly), Roger Arntzen on double bass, and Pal Hausken on drums, they have released a couple of diverting releases already on Rune Grammofon. Whiteout is typical in terms of quality, but atypical in the epic length of these pieces, which gives them more time to develop ideas.
