CD REVIEW

The Country: Losing Stones, Collecting Bones
By THRILLJOCKEY
We
are absolutely thrilled with this album, a true original in the genre
of the piano trio. The ensemble playing of this young group is excellent
and have improved a lot since their much acclaimed debut from last year
(RCD 2045). The 11 brand new tunes from pianist Morten Qvenild are bound
to establish him as a writer with a strong and personal signature. We
find elements from pop, rock, country, folk, blues and classical music,
all very rich in melody and detail, new layers are revelead with each
listen. None other than Marc Ribot is guesting on two tracks, Swedish
singer Stefan Sundtröm helps out on one track and Morten himself
sings the beautiful track that ends the album. The album was recorded
at the legendary Atlantis Studio in Stockholm, home of the first classic
Abba recordings.
